FM Radio for Snorkellers

by GadgetManiac on April 6, 2004

This unique product allows swimmers & divers to listen to FM radio broadcasts. Interesting, in that the sound is transmitted by bone conduction, thus avoiding the need for earphones and wires.

Waterproof to 30 feet, but at that depth, the device would be useless because sea water attenuates FM radio frequencies by about 100 dB per foot. The product developers ought to have considered adding an AM band (1 MHz) where the attenuation is much lower at about 10 dB per foot.
