Sony Vaio Pocket VGF-AP1

by GadgetManiac on May 11, 2004

This Vaio product is a 20GB portable audio device with a 320×256 color screen that can play movies as well as view digital photos. Labelled the Pocket, it holds about 13,000 tunes. The device supports playback of Sony’s ATRAC3 and ATRAC3plus (LP2 and LP4) compression formats. MP3 and WAV audio formats can be converted into the ATRAC format with the bundled SonicStage or MusicMove software.

Intended as a rival to the iPod, the user interface is via a touch-sensitive panel called “G-sense”, instead of the iPod wheel approach.

I always liked the wheel approach; I’m sorry that it’s gone the way of the Walkman.

Yeah, I feel that touch screens are a slightly more unpredictable form of control. The old iPods were wheel-y easy to use.
