Alpine will soon offer the KCA-420i which is an in-car adapter for the iPod. The KCA-420i will retrieve the music data from the iPod and show it on the Alpine display, as well as play the music, all without having to use the iPod itself. 
I’m sure it will work well, but it seems a little bulky for what it does.
