LG’s Biometric Phone

by GadgetManiac on August 23, 2004

LG’s new LG-LP3800 cell phone scans your fingerprint before giving you access to the phone. It’s apparently the 1st cellphone with fingerprint recognition.

LP3800

Now, Telecoms Korea is reporting that the LP3800 is not as secure as previously reported. The user can simply enter the unit’s password after the fingerprint scan fails 3x in a row … thus effectively bypassing the biometrics.

Aside from that, the LP3800 seems like a good cameraphone. Its got a 1.3 megapixel CCD camera and a 2.2in LCD screen. Stereo MP3 playback etc. I guess they’ll just fix the problem and re-introduce it with a different model number.

I think we need more kinds of recognition systems like this. Down with passwords!

Not good for cold days when you’re wearing gloves!
