Rio Audio’s new Carbon is a hard-drive based MP3 player intended as competition for the iPod Mini. Rio Carbon

The Carbon contains a Seagate 1 inch 5GB hard drive which can hold 1250 MP3 files. The battery provides about 20hours of playback.

Carbon supports Microsoft’s Janus which is a new DRM technology that allows time-limited and subscription content to be transferred to Janus-enabled devices.

Rio might not be a household name, but they’re a pretty innovative company.
