Ford’s Volvo unit has developed a prototype futuristic vehicle called the Tandem, which may see production before 2010…i.e. this is another concept car that looks good, but will never get built.

The Tandem is a two-passenger, capsule-shaped vehicle in which the passenger sits behind the driver. The Tandem could have a variety of powertrains, ranging from a fuel cell to a traditional internal-combustion engine.
Douglas Frasher, Volvo’s Monitoring and Concept Center strategic design chief envisages a future where we all have small fuel-efficient vehicles and rent larger ones as needed for vacations, moving etc.

What about people with a lot of kids? Will they be renting all the time?
I think small cars like these would really cut down on traffic jams.
