Hurricane-Proof House

The Dome Home located in Pensacola Beach FL, survived Hurricane Ivan last week with little damage.Dome Home

The structure is designed to withstand winds up to 300 miles per hour. It sits on 16 pilings, driven 17 feet into the sand. It’s a solid concrete house with 5 miles of steel reinforcements for added support.

Most of the surrounding (regular) houses were badly damaged.

Those who are fired with an enthusiastic idea and who allow it to take hold and dominate their thoughts find that new worlds open for them. As long as enthusiasm holds out, so will new opportunities.

Maybe we need entire dome neighborhoods in hurricane zones.

I think a lot of people might be put off by the idea of living in a dome, though, even if that’s an unfair prejudice.
