NEC 3-D LCD

by GadgetManiac on September 2, 2004

NEC Corporation has just announced the development of a new high-res 3-dimensional LCD display system suitable for small devices such as cell phones.

The System-On-Glass (“SOG”) liquid crystal display (“LCD”) can display the world’s highest resolution 3D images. NEC has achieved 470ppi pixels-per-inch (horizontal) x 235ppi (vertical) pixel resolution in 2.5inch diagonal … whereas typical mobile equipment reaches a resolution of 90ppi.

The system utilizes a small lenticular lens placed over each group of pixels in order to refract the light from those pixels to the desired location.

It’s amazing this technology goes back so many years. It’s time will come someday, I’m sure.
