Personal Lightning Detector

by GadgetManiac on September 16, 2004

StrikeAlert is a wearable lightning detector that provides an early warning of approaching lightning strikes.

An audible alarm sounds when there’s a strike and a corresponding LED light illuminates accordingly at lightning distances of 20-40 miles, 12-24 miles, 6-12 miles and within 6 miles.

The company’s website provides the following encouragement to purchase the product: “The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) estimates there are 200 deaths and 750 severe injuries from lightning each year in the U.S.”

Even better would be a helmet with a lighting rod attached.

I’d like a wearable alarm that goes of whenever my mother-in-law is approaching my house.
