“Cellphones Become ‘Swiss Army Knives’ as Technology Blurs” is the title of an article in today’s Wall Street Journal. The piece discusses the continued and growing importance of cellphones as an integrating platform for all manner of consumer products and services. They cite 4 factors as contributing to this success: Improved network coverage, Bluetooth, Better digital networks and Declining prices. As for the future, it resembles Korea: There, you can already control your home appliances remotely, watch TV on your phone and check your blood-sugar levels & send the results to your MD.
The article also makes note of LG’s new VX8000 feature-rich phone which will be on display at the company’s booth at the Consumer Electronics Association conference January 6-9 in Las Vegas.
