CNN just published their list of the Top 25: Innovations of the past ¼ century, as noted below:-
- The Internet
- Cell phone
- Personal computers
- Fiber optics
- Commercialized GPS
- Portable computers
- Memory storage discs
- Consumer level digital camera
- Radio frequency ID tags
- MEMS
- DNA fingerprinting
- Air bags
- ATM
- Advanced batteries
- Hybrid car
- OLEDs
- Display panels
- HDTV
- Space shuttle
- Nanotechnology
- Flash memory
- Voice mail
- Modern hearing aids
- Short Range, High Frequency Radio …. e.g. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
Assembled in collaboration with the Lemelson-MIT Program, so its tough to argue the list. My only comment is that by having such pervasive and deep-impact items as the Internet and Cell Phone share the stage with the lowly Hearing Aid, it makes the list seem skewed.

You might not feel that way if you were losing your hearing, Gadgetmaniac!
Air bags were surprisingly high on the list.
