Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004- Update

The impact of the tsunami disaster that struck South-east Asia on Dec 26 continues to grow. The confirmed death toll is now over 123,000, with 5 million people homeless. The death toll is expected to hit 200,000, with most of those in Indonesia.

The Indian Ocean tsunami of ’04 and the Japanese tsunami of ’11 were two of the most devastating natural disasters of our lifetimes. I hope tsunami predicting is a major priority for science today.

That region is still in need of aid today, several years after the horror.
