The Lemelson-MIT Awards for Invention

The Lemelson-MIT Awards for Invention and Innovation include the $500,0000 Lemelson-MIT Prize, which is the world’s largest single cash prize for invention. Past winners include:

  • Nick Holonyak, who invented the first practical LED
  • Leroy Hood for his DNA Sequencer
  • Dean Kamen for the iBOT 3000 Mobility System

I would think the world’s largest cash prize for an invention would be larger than 500k. Nobel Prize winners win well over a million dollars.
