3D Audio For Mobile Phones

February 16th, 2005

By GadgetManiac

Sonaptic and a few other companies are working on ways to fool your ears into believing that 3D sound is emanating from your mobile phone’s stereo headphones. It works “By creating a transaural crosstalk cancellation signal from each alternate loudspeaker”(whatever that means), and is implemented via mathematical algorithms. The technology is already in use in mobile phones from NEC, Fujitsu and Mitsubishi. Some competitors in this market space are AM3D and SRS.
