Push-to-View

by GadgetManiac on February 11, 2005

LG Electronics indicated yesterday it has developed a mobile phone that allows users to engage in multi-user video conferencing.

Called “push-to-view”, or PTV, its an extension of PTT (push-to-talk), which uses a walkie-talkie-like approach. LG plans to demonstrate their WCDMA-based PTV technology at the 3GSM World Congress in a few days.

Details are scarce, but LG’s PTV approach is probably based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) standard, which defines a generic architecture for offering Voice over IP (VoIP) and multimedia services.

I’m still waiting for an awe-inspiring, multi-person video chat feature.
