The latest issue of NewScientist has an article entitled “13 Things That do not Make Sense”, wherein they list some of the current mysteries in the sci-med universe .. including such staples as dark matter and dark energy. They also make note of the The Pioneer anomaly, which refers to the observation that the Pioneer 10 and 11 spacecraft, launched more than thirty years ago, are now hundreds of thousands of miles off course, with no explanation. ..BTW, there’s an error in the article. NS states that something is affecting the spacecraft, “causing them to speed up”. In fact, the opposite is true … the craft are slowing down and being pulled back towards the sun. It’s kind of nice in a way to know taht we don’t have all the answers, that there’s still plenty out there to be discovered.
Back when I took science in high school, there were many more things that made no sense to me!
