Internet Payphone

Telstra, the Australian telco, has commenced a new service that allows customers to send e-mail and text, picture and video messages via Internet-enabled public payphones. The payphones offer a color LCD touch screens and support video messaging via e-mail via a built-in Web camera.

I hadn’t heard about the Internet payphone movement. Did it fizzle quickly? Were there virtual slots in which you could drop virtual quarters?

I think the smartphone quickly snuffed out any chance the Internet payphone had. Not a bad idea, just an unnecssary one.
