Motorola new SLVR Models – V270 and V280

Motorola’s been busy these last few days, launching a total of 8 new phones. Two of the new models are stripped-down versions of the Motorola SLVR V8, which was launched less than a month ago. They are the SLVRlite V270 and the SLVRcam V280. Motorola’s clearly been working on their brand strategy and product positioning vis-a-vis market segmentation. These 2 new phones will have a lower price point and will coat-tail on the brand recognition of the RAZR and the SLVR. To arrive at the new models, they took the original SVLR V8 form factor and slimmed it down a bit, both size and weight-wise. They achieved this by throwing away the SLVR’s MP3 player, EDGE capabilities and the Trans Flash card reader. Motorola also removed 47% of the pixels, by going from a resolution of 176×220 to 128×160. Finally, the V280 got to keep the SLVR’s VGA camera, but the V270 did not.
