Time Magazine’s gadget of the week is the new version of the Rhapsody digital music service. In summary, they liked it. The reviewer thought highly of the free service (25 songs per month), and liked the price per song and the price per album – 89 cents & $8.99 respectively. They were also happy that Rhapsody finally introduced “Rhapsody To Go” – a subscription-based music rental service, which means that the tunes stop playing if you stop paying – $15 each month. On the down side, they were concerned that subscription-based downloads were only guaranteed to work on Creative Zen Micro and iRiver H10 devices. The review was a bit skimpy, had an air of “damning with faint praise” about it, and concludes by suggesting that Rhapsody is not quite as good as iTunes. As a sidebar, CNet gives Rhapsody a rating of 8.0, as compared to a rating of 8.3 for iTunes. See links below for (more) detailed reviews of both products.
