This came as a surprise to me: Some elevators can be made to bypass intermediate stops and go directly to the floor of your choice. How? By pressing and holding the Door Close and Floor number buttons simultaneously. Apparently, this feature works on most Otis, and some Dover elevator models. Hacking Elevators 101!

I’d be afraid to play around with an elevator’s controls. I’m haunted by the memory of getting stuck in an elevator as a child with some smelly people.
I don’t think that doing this would make you too popular on the elevator, though.
