Apple today announced its fifth generation iPod, called appropriately enough, the iPod. They’ve slimmed it down, improved the battery life and added MPEG-4 and H.264 video playback at 30 frames per second. The 60GB model measures 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.55 inches and weighs 5.5 ounces. In metric, thats 104 x 61 x 14 mm and 156 grams. The battery life for the 60GB iPod depends on the media: the battery lasts up to 20 hours for music playback, 4 hours for still photos with music, and only about 3 hours for video playback. The iPod now has 2.5 inch screen with QVGA resolution. Color depth remains at 16-bits. Comprehensive reviews are available from Ars Technica and iLounge. Looks like another winner from Apple. It seems strange to call something that comes out every year a “new generation.”
I remember when the release of a new iPod was a big deal, probably as big a deal as the release of a new iPhone is today.
