Nano Body Armor

Tungsten Disulfide Nanotube x-section Nanotech company ApNano Materials is working on some new body and vehicle armor that is expected to be about twice as strong as what is now available. This new armor will be made from Tungsten Disulfide (WS2) that is formed as nanotubes as depicted in the image. The layering process produces excellent shock absorbing properties and should withstand a steel projectile with a velocity of 1.5 km/second.

This new armor will be a positive development for those who are in harm’s way, however, from a mathematical perspective, the Lotka-Volterra equations suggest that it may also have an unintended consequence in that will upset the predator-prey population dynamics via an increase the number of potential victims (by virtue of the fact that they will now be more likely to survive), and so should paradoxically lead to an increase in the number of predators.
