Motorola renamed its A1200 smartphone to “Ming”, for its recent launch into the China market. The phone’s full feature set is available at Motorola Taiwan, and includes a 2.4-inch QVGA touchscreen, low weight of 100 grams, sized at 96 x 52 x 21.5 mm, PXA270 processor, Linux operating system and a 2 MP camera, that doubles as a business card reader.
The phone also has quad-band GSM/GPRS, the usual smartphone functionality, POP3 e-mail support, MP3 player, FM radio, Bluetooth, Opera browser for WAP and HTML sites, and a MicroSD card reader.
$517.
According to Motorola Hong Kong, “Ming means bright, clear, overt or open, clear-sighted, and to understand. The name MING was chosen to resonate more deeply with people in Hong Kong than a traditional model name or number can” … good to know for your next Asian product launch.

Do you know if this will be released in the US? if not and i buy it will it work just as well?
The Ming and the A1200 are identical phones from Motorola. The Ming is intended for the China market and was launched 14 March 2006 in Hong Kong. There does not seem to be any official word from Motorola regarding a US launch date for the A1200. It’s a quad-band GSM phone so it should work on Cingular.
WILL THIS PHONE BE COMPATIBLE WITH SPRINT SERVICES… HAS A RELEASE DATE BEEN ESTABLISHED YET? I AM VERY ANXIOUS TO PURCHASE ONE?
The Sprint network is CDMA. The Moto Ming phone however is built to operate on GSM networks. Options are to switch to a GSM carrier like Cingular, or wait for Motorola to release a CDMA version of the phone.<br />

No release date as yet.
1: Best phone I have ever had, works great on cingular.<br />

2: Any ideas about a US GPS software for this phone? It would have to be 100% for touch screen.<br />

If you cannot get the Ming at StarHub in Singapore, you may have to go to Hong Kong.<br />

This phone looks/sounds great. Can it work with T-Mobile US?
Merik, yes it can. T-Mobile networks use GSM technology, and the Ming is a GSM phone.
How can I get this phone. I live in CA and seen one person with it already?
Merick-you’d probably have to travel to Hong Kong or someplace similar in order to get this phone. Or perhaps contact some mobile phone store there to ask if they can mail it to you. The downside I guess is that the screen menus and manuals will be in Chinese – bilingual if you’re lucky.
im tryin to setup my mms with this phone a1200 and cant seem to get it. I have t mobile. would u have nay suggestions

Has anyone actually got this phone to function with T-Mobile? I am considering buying it and have been in contact with T-Mobile. However, I have been told under their current structure, one cannot have full Internet access from the phone. You can get RSS feeds and SMS, but would not be able to use the full surfing capability of the A1200. Can anyone contradict this?
Do you have any idea if this phone is compatible with verizon??
I hope it is because i just bought it!!
Do you know how can I connect my ming with cingular?

Can anyone help…. I just got the Moto Ming a few days ago. (My phone service is with Cingular.) I added my sim card and it started working….. all is good except one thing. I can not send or receive a message with a picture in it. So I somehow need to change some settings. Cingular will not help because I did not get the phone through them. UGH! I do have picture messaging on my plan… So I know it is not that. Does anyone have anything for me?
Thanks, Jon

I am sorry to trouble you but how did you mak your A1200 work with Tmobile MMS, I have tried everything and I am desperate. I would be happy to tell you how to get the internet working if you haven’t figured it out. Please could you send me your exact settings for your Data Network config as well as the profile cofig in your Message tab. I am losing my mind trying to make it work. It actually says sent when I attempt to send now but I or anyone else never receives. Really appreciate any help.

I also REALLY want the Motorola Ming or the Chinese version..doesnt matter to me
problem;Verizon isn’t supported..anyone know when?
I have this phone. I bought it unlocked off ebay for about 350$. It works pretty well, T-mobile (my carrier) changed as many of the functions as they could into english. All I had to do was bring the phone in and they gave me a sim card. Once I got home I called T-mobile and they talked me through the LONG set up. My only problems with it are that of course, because it’s originally chinese the msn mobile and some other (though not major) aspects of it wont work. I can however get onto the internet, though it is slow going. The touch screen is easily dirtied because of the close proximity it must have with your face if you dont use a headset. It seemed to lose some of its sensitivity after a couple weeks also. The camera is pretty good but I wouldnt try to take any important pictures with it. It’s hard to get a clear shot unless you are ight in front of the subject you’re photographing.
I’d like to see how the US version compares to mine, which I’m sure is one of the first versions of the Ming. There’s probably loads of things updated. If I would have known it was coming to the US I would have waited. If it makes it here soon I’ll probably replace mine with the US version.
I love my Motorola Ming, but I am having a few problems with it that maybe someone could help me with. One problem that I am having is that the sound is very low both on my phone itself and on my Bluetooth headset, making it very hard to hear the person talking on the other end. Also, my phone won’t notify me when someone has left me a voicemail…then when I go to listen to my voicemail, its send me a blank text message after I’ve hung up. Could someone help me resolve these two things…has anyone else had these problems? Thanks
I bought a moto ming. perhaps my mistake. Not even a month but its mms service incoming or outgoing never worked. now the phone keeps coming on and switching off continuously all by itself. don’t know the problem. can’t talk or even type a message as it switches off and comes on. don’t know……. can someone help?
I just got the motorola ming. I configured it so that I can recieve picture message and use media net. I cannot send picture texts or save the incoming multimedia messages that I get. Well I can save them, but I can not view them. Does anyone know how to configure my phone so I am able to do these things? I love the phone and I really really want to have full capapbilities of it!!! Thanks hope someone get it. I am at MiamiStone626@aol.com
I got the motorola ming a few days ago but cannot get picture messaging nor can i get my browser working and my bluetooth will not find anyone when i search to send something, although they are right next to me with their bluetooth on!… anyone? thanks

I purchased a Motorola Ming A1200 from Ebay. No one from AT&T knows how to set up the Media Net web browser for use in the U.S.. I called Motorola and they have a Moto Ming Department. They gave me the settings to be able to use the internet in the U.S. with this phone but when it didn’t work, I called AT&T back and AT&T had me change some of the settings Motorola gave me. I was still getting an error message “Network Problem” or “Connect Media Net failed. Try Again?”.
This is what Motorola told me to put into my settings:
Open the Setup App.
Scroll down to Data Network.
Select Menu -> New to Create a profile.
Profile Name: MediaNet
GPRS setting:
APN: wap.cingular
User Name: motA1200
Password: CINGULAR1 (ALL UPPERCASE)
Time Out: Off
Primary Gateway IP: 66.209.11.32
Port: 80
Secondary Gateway IP: 66.209.11.32
Port: 80
DNS Server: NO CHECK MARK
CSD setting:
Dial in number
Query at Logon: (NO CHECK MARK)
User Name
Password
Baud Rate Auto
Line Type: Modem
Time Out Off
DNS Server: NO CHECK MARK
Open your Browser App -> Menu -> Setup -> Profiles -> Menu -> New
Profile name: MediaNet
Homepage: wap.cingular.com
Network link: Choose the Data Profile you created in step 2 (MediaNet)
Make sure the dot is filled in beside MediaNet once you have completed this.
———————————————————————————————————-
This is what AT&T told me to change in my settings:
Select Menu -> New to Create a profile.
Profile Name: MediaNet
GPRS setting:
APN: wap.cingular
User Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1 (ALL UPPERCASE)
Time Out: Off
Primary Gateway IP: 66.209.11.32
Port: 80
Secondary Gateway IP: (BLANK)
Port: (BLANK)
DNS Server: CHECK MARK
1) 000.000.000.000
2) 000.000.000.000
CSD setting:
Dial in number
Query at Logon: (NO CHECK MARK)
User Name

Baud Rate: Auto
Line Type: ISDN
Time Out: 5 MINS
DNS Server: CHECK MARK
1) 000.000.000.000
2) 000.000.000.000
When I add the 0′s under DNS Server and put the check mark in DNS Server like
I’m being told to do by AT&T, I get an error message: “Invalid IP Address” and I can’t
get out of Settings without unchecking DNS Server but I still cannot connect.
Also, GPRS shows Enabled but GPRS Link shows Disconnected.
I’m trying to find out if this is affecting the connection in some kind of way.
The ‘G’ icon on my home screen is grayed out and it was black when I first set up the phone.
I know that this icon has to be dark to indicate the GPRS signal is on.
I don’t know how to fix this but I wonder if it could fix my problem.
If anyone has already dealt with this successfully, please help!!!!!!!!!!

Here’s one for you – everything on my Ming works great, though I don’t think the picture tx/rx works (don’t care about that). Note: I have AT&T. The problem I’m having is that it periodically/randomly pops up a message saying “refreshing sim card, please wait” and then blanks my screen except for a thin menu across the middle of the screen. I just “x” it out and it’s back to normal/what I was doing. Rather than rambling on for no reason with extraneous details, does this sound familiar to anyone? Note: it didn’t do it prior to transferring my number from VA to NC…
By the way, I really like the phone. In my experience with cell phones (since 1995), this is one of the best I’ve ever owned. The signal works great, the internet is quicker than dial-up, IMO, it has all the features I’d ever want and plenty more, and I just love the design/engineering that was put into it. It’s quite the head-turner too, not that that’s a good reason to buy a cell phone. If yours has poor volume or the keypad is shot (in a relatively new phone), you were one of the few unlucky folks. Go for a refund, repair, or replacement and enjoy it like you should be.
Keep it real.
As an update, in case anybody looks at this page again (haha), I figured out that each time the signal drops and then comes back (usually within seconds), it performs the above “refreshing sim…” Maybe it’s because my phone is either not 100% compatible with AT&T (my bet) or because it has old firmware (wasn’t the case before, when I was with AT&T in VA…) So, who knows.
Just thought I’d throw that out there. Laterrrr.
I have the A 1200 and can receive text messages but not picture messaging. Can anyone help? I am with At&t
hi, has anyone with att/cingular successfully configured for medianet? followed directions from att (which are the same as for the rzr) but get “invalid ip address” message. motorola’s setup doesn’t work either.
I also need help with the AT&T internet connection. AT&T told me it cannot be done.
I am hoping this is not trye. I actually don’t care about the internet. I do however like to send & receive photos.
thx, sue
