by GadgetManiac on April 3, 2006

Loc8torRFID jumps out of the industrial/retail sector and into the consumer arena with the launch of the Loc8tor item-finding gadget. The Loc8tor device can find keys, cats and dogs, mobile phones or any misplaced item that has an RFID tag attached to it, and can do so up to a remarkable distance of 600 feet or 183 meters. The Loc8tor was introduced at CES 2006 and is just now becoming available.

The product not only locates tagged items to a distance of down to one inch, but also can warn when an item moves out of a preset zone.

Loc8tor works with active (powered) RFID tags and operates in the 2.45 GHz Industry/Scientific/Medical (ISM) band. The device costs about $170 with 4 tags. Two additional 2 tags go for $44.
