Quarterly Phone Sales Down

Phone makers produced 220 million units in the first quarter of 2006, which is down 9.5% from the previous quarter as per an anticipated seasonal slowdown. Nokia continues to be number 1 with 75,100,000 phones shipped in 1Q06 for a market share of 34.1% which is down slightly. Motorola and Samung, however, did well by increasing their market share to 21.0% and 13.2% respectively.

Total production for 2006 is currently forecast at 932 million units … thats a lot of phones.

932 million units in 2006? I’m surprised by that number, especially considering this was before the dawn of the smartphone.
