by GadgetManiac on May 27, 2006

Sony Ericsson W42S Sony Ericsson has a new MP3 phone, model W42S, with a remarkable 30 hours of music playback. The W42S comes with 3 dedicated music buttons. The knurled knob at the bottom of the phone is the Music Shuttle button – it controls music playback features such as stop, play, rewind, fast-forward and track selection. There are also separate Vol+ and Vol- push buttons on either side of the Shuttle knob.

The phone has 1GB of onboard memory, with an additional 2GB available via Memory Stick, as well as a 1.25 megapixel camera. Only in Japan for now.

The W42S is a Japan-only phone and has menus in Japanese. The phone works on CDMA2000 1x EV-DO.

The price is 20000 yen, which is about $170USD at today’s exchange rate, or about $195CAD or about 90GBP etc.

If you’re reading this, then you are most likely NOT Japanese and so will have to do with another product, perhaps the W850i or the W950i or whatever variation thereof is available in your country.

I have that phone given to me by my aunt who lives in Japan. I wanted to use it here in the Philippines…the simcard (au) works in my w300i even here in manila but my globe sim doesn’t work on my w42s.

I wish I had relatives in Japan, Marge, who could send me the latest gadgets only available in that country. There are so many great things exclusive to that part of the world!
