Cell Phone Obsoletes the Wristwatch

by GadgetManiac on July 13, 2006

VirtDevice convergence continues apace as the cell phone seemingly claims another victim…this time it’s the wristwatch. Word from Japan is that wristwatch usage is down to only 46% of the general population, with most people getting the time of day from their cell phones.

The wristwatch now appears to be an endangered species, but is fighting back, this time in the form of the Citizen i:VIRT. The i:VIRT is a kind of accessory for your cell phone that maintains a Bluetooth connection with the phone, lights up and vibrates, alerts the wearer re who’s calling and tells time, and all that…our opinion: not even close, let alone no cigar.

A reverse takeover might be a better bet for the survival of the wristwatch – something along the lines of the Triple Watch Cell Phone.

Me too, even though I hardly ever even look at it anymore. Still, it’ll be tough to break up with my watch.
