IDG advises that this month’s coolest gadget is the new Toshiba RD-A1 HD DVD recorder. The RD-A1 is indeed impressive – it supports 1080p, comes with a 1 TB hdd, which can hold up to 130 hours of high-definition TV and can read from and burn to a large number of optical formats. A small negative is that the device only supports video recording to the MPEG-2 format. Less than $3500. The Toshiba Press Release with specs is available at this link.
Other, seemingly less cool gadgets include the Samsung SGH-i320 qwerty smartphone, the Sharp W-Zero3 also a qwerty smartphone, as well as the Sony UX90 hand-held computer, which is a flash-memory-based version of the VGN-UX50.
