Optimal Store Location

Bakery in Lyon, FranceOpening a bakery? You might want to review Pablo Jensen’s paper on best site location. Jensen applies methods from physics and network analysis to assign a quality index to a particular site based on the proposed business’s apparent affinity to, or repulsion from all of the other businesses within a radius of 100m.

Hint: stay away from other bakeries…he indicates that bakeries seem to repel each other, whereas clothing and gadget stores tend to cluster together.

One bakery is exciting…more than one reminds you that you haven’t been to the gym in a while.

Maybe it’s me, but I haven’t noticed a lot of gadget stores clustered together. Of course, I don’t live in a large city.
