The Asus U1F laptop was introduced back in January. The U1F is a nice thin/light Vista notebook computer with an 11.1 inch 1366×768 display and weighing 2.2 lbs or 1 kg. The notebook is nearly-unique in that it has an LED backlight (instead of the usual CCFL – Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp)…Sony however was 1st to the LED-backlit market with the Vaio TX2 and TX3. A quasi-detailed assessment of the U1F LED screen is available at this link.
LED advantages include a slimmer LCD display, lower power requirements leading to longer battery life, and more and better colors ie almost 100% NTSC. Some thoughts on the question of LED vs. CCFL can be found at this link, wherein they suggest that LEDs deliver a much better color gamut than CCFL; RGB LEDs are better than White LEDs; LEDs are expensive; LEDs do not age uniformly.

It seems strange that LED’s don’t age uniformly–I could see this becoming a problem after a while.
