The Art Lebedev Studio, ensconced at 5 Gazetny Lane in Moscow, has created what is either an outstanding conceptual computer keyboard or perhaps just another piece of good-looking vaporware. Dubbed the Optimus-103, the keyboard is unique in that it has a total of 105,472 pixels – each keytop has a 32×32 pixel OLED display built into it, that can be set to display almost anything, be it letters, characters, icons, small pictures, HTML code, and so on. Great design, but…
The Optimus-103 was first described back in 2005 to great acclaim. The fact that nothing much has happened since then has turned many of the faithful towards apostasy and prompted Wired Magazine to award 10th place in their Vaporware ’06 contest to the self-same Optimus-103 Keyboard.
The latest word however is that contracts has been let and production of the keys has started and the O-103 is back on track for 2007 availability. $1200.
