French review site GenerationMP3 took a look at the Sony NW-A800 series of MP3 players, specifically the A805, and gave it a rating of 4/5.
They liked the finish on the A805 and the A/V quality, but weren’t happy with the screen and the battery life.
…seems a tad generous…

The Zune MP3 player has been available for just over 5 months, and in case you’re wondering how it’s doing, you might be interested to hear that PC World gives the Zune a solid B-minus, with about a 10% market share in the hard-drive segment of the media player market.
PC World also offers free-of-charge a number of helpful hints designed to assist the Microsoft Marketing Dept to get Zune into the zone. They suggest dropping the ’social’ aspect, making the Zune more WiFi-friendly and adding flash memory. A parallel commentary by MSFT also suggests that they’re also considering offering the Zune in more colors, a nano-esque version as well as a phone version of the Zune.

In a spot of good fortune, Wired Magazine, that purveyor of technology-logy, received their brand-new N95 phone from Nokia a few days ago. They proceeded to open the package and run their grubby paws all over the superphone. The result is a whole bunch of new photos (18) of the now-unclean N95, but no net-new useful information about it. Apparently there’s a more detailed review in the works.
The reviewer, we discover, is most decidedly not an Apple iPhone fangirl, calling the thing a scratch-magnet, while describing the N95 as a “far superior product”.

Panasonic’s HDC-SD1 high-definition camcorder was announced back in November 2006, and is just now becoming available. The SD1 records onto SD cards – the included 4GB card holds about 1 hour of 1080i video. The camcorder also employs a 3CCD imaging system, which is supposed to result in better detail and more accurate colors, as compared to those cheapo CCD systems. Akihabara News had a look at the HDC-SD1, and gave it a rating of 9/10.
Akihabara liked the SD1’s low size & weight and video quality – and less so, the poor low light performance and its use of the relatively unknown & not-widely-used ACVHD hi-def codec.

In a dubious matchup, computer maker HP “actions speak louder than words” seems to have teamed up with “dynamic luxury” car maker Maybach to develop the HP ns42 Maybach notebook computer.
$4000 buys you a few Maybach decals, 64 GB SSD, Windows XP, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, all done up in what looks like alligator skin.
Announced on April 1st.

In a new service announcement, Google describes their ne
w free in-home wireless broadband service, called Google TiSP.
Simply flush one end of the fiber optic cable down the toilet, and specially trained Google engineers will (eventually) retrieve it and connect it to their global data networking system.
…GadgetManiac engineers have reviewed the Google TiSP product, and suspect a hoax, perhaps even a jockular attempt…some bathroom humor from Google.

The New York Times describes some of the recent (not-so-recent?) goings-on in Internet radio…
They like the customized services provided by Pandora, Last.fm and Slacker. Pandora uses professional musicologists to evaluate songs according to 400 characteristics and Last.fm uses recommendations from (15 million!) other listeners, all inanimatedly purpose-driven to deliver music that you’re statistically likely to like.
And those into music videos are directed towards MOG TV, which delivers YouTube videos personalized to your music tastes.
