Warner Goes Blu

In an interesting and likely decisive development, Warner Bros. has decided to back the Blu-ray hi-def video format, instead of rival HD DVD. If the trend continues, then it’s likely to be game, set and match as Sony prevails over Toshiba.

It’s always fascinating to speculate on why these things happen, and what can be learned. If such commercial conflicts can indeed be modelled on warfare, then the reason for the Blu-ray putative putsch would appear to highlight a deficiency in Sun Tzu’s definitive tract The Art of War, and call for the addition of a new Chapter XIV. Bribery.

Any treatise on war should definitely examine bribery, I’d think.
