Slacker Portable by Wired MagAccording to Wired Magazine, the new Slacker Portable music player is no slacker. The SlackPort has been in the pipeline for about a year now, and Wired finally got their hands on 1 and reviewed it.

In summary, they liked it giving the thing 8/10, saying it was worth the wait.

The Slacker Portable connects by Wi-Fi 802.11B/G to the 2 million songs on the Slacker Radio internet radio service. The $299.99 8GB model can hold up to 4000 of those 2M songs and is refreshed once the unit is within range of a Wi-Fi service. Slacker Radio is free if one is willing to put up with listening to ads & limits on song skipping, otherwise it’s $10/month.

…the SP is bigger and heavier than the somewhat comparable iPod Touch, and a challenge to the Apple business model namely “People want to own their music”.

I don’t know if “Slacker” is the best name for a product, but I guess it makes sense for a music player.
