RapLeaf recently reviewed some demographic data from a few social networks and found that users are mostly female and young. They surveyed 22 million users on Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, Plaxo and Hi5 and discovered that 62% are female and about two-thirds are below 26 years of age. LinkedIn was the only social network that had a preponderance of males.
Some thus take the stereotypical view that females are more relationship driven and communication oriented, and males are living in their parents basement while trying to optimize the frame rate for Crysis.

As if there isn’t enough to worry about, eWeek Emerging Technologies regales us with their list of the 10 most dangerous new technologies:
1. Nanotech
2. RFID
3. Artificial Intelligence
4. Mobile payment
5. Digital Identities
6. Web OS
7. GPS
8. Networked-Computerized Cars
9. Anonymity Tools
10. Cybernetic Implants
Nanotech is on the list and apparently the most dangerous because it could be used “to create diseases and destroy the environment”. While no further informastion is provided by the eWeek article, nanotech seems to be deemed dangerous largely because of the unknowns associated with the use of e.g. nano-scale titanium dioxide in food.

Plus ça change…that’s how the old-time Iceboxes worked. Now if there were only some way to store the heat of summer and use it in the winter time.

Just a month ago, we made note of five iPhone Wannabes, and remarked on how closely some of them came to matching the functionality of the iPhone itself. And now, here is a link to 12 more iPhone look-alikes (with some overlap), all of them from a variety of manufacturers in China. Arguably the most interesting of the dozen are…
COOL999 – uses Windows Mobile 6.0
Hiphone – seems to have most of the basic iPhone functionality
?? (apple) iphone – a cracked iPhone running OS X, but expensive at $750.
…we’re calling imitation/flattery/coincidence/innovation…
