IBM’s Medical Avatar

ibm-anatomic-and-symbolic-mapper-engine-asme.jpgIBM’s Anatomic and Symbolic Mapper Engine (ASME) has made an appearance at CeBIT 2008 in Hannover.

A mouse click on the spine for example brings up the patient’s med records related to that item. IBM describes ASME as improving medical info retrieval, and as a kind of “Google Earth for the body”.

Can the avatar turn its head and cough? Seriously, though, I wonder if someday these avatars will lead to more virtual doctor’s appointments and less invasive examinations.
