Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 Delayed

by GadgetManiac on March 2, 2008

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1Oh noes…it looks like our favorite vaporphone, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 might be delayed on its way to market. Sony-E’s original statement on the occasion of the phone’s announcement was the “X1 will be available in selected markets from the second half of 2008“.

But now it would seem that the X1 might not make it to those self same selected markets until 10/02/2009. Shame really…if true it likely involves the challenges in finding a processor with a twitch rate high enough to support all of that simultaneous functionality, drive an 800×480 screen and work with the Windows Mobile OS in a 110x53x16.7mm package without melting.

…until further notice, the X1 is off our list of most over-converged devices.

Update 3/3: never mind. According to one Aldo Liguori, the X1 is back on track.

That’s why you can’t get too attached to a vaporphone! It only leads to heartaches like postponement or…gulp…cancellation.
