The Next Big One

by GadgetManiac on March 21, 2008

One of the safest predictions around is that there will be another big earthquake in the fault-riddled Bay Area around San Francisco…

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that major earthquakes on the Hayward Fault occur on average every 140 years, which means that the next big tremblor there is due Oct. 21 2008. While the article is replete with things like “losses of more than $1.5 trillion”, they avoid sensationalism such as “Silicon Valley turns into silicon dioxide!”

Next big quake could be worse than 1906 – San Francisco Chronicle, March 21 2008

This is truly frightening–I don’t think a major earthquake has ever hit a modern, densely-populated American city before.

This will be devastating. If only scientists were able to predict when an earthquake was about to hit….
