by GadgetManiac on April 10, 2008

Apple MacBook - a Mossberg fav Walt Mossberg’s spring computer buying guide is now available – desktops are out & laptops are in, especially Macs and ThinkPads.

Walt sez if you travel a lot, then get the Apple MacBook Air or the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 – if not, consider one of the Dell Inspiron 1525, HP dv6700 and the Apple MacBook or Pro.

Other Mossy preferences include:
>Leopard – it’s faster & better than Vista.
>LED backlighting.
>If Apple, get 2GB of memory; if Vista, get 3GB.
>Dual-core processor.
>160GB HDD – forget SSD.
>Minimum battery life of 3 hours.
>802.11n.

…he concludes with the standard disclaimers re how all this depends on one’s requirements & budget.

Laptops have had a great run, but it will be interesting to see how they compete with tablets over the long haul.

I think laptops will be around as an option — maybe not the most popular option — for some time to come.
