Olive Media Products has just announced the Opus Nº4 and Melody Nº2 music server/client products.

The Opus Nº4 music server holds up to 3000 CDs on its 1TB hdd. It supports WAV, FLAC and MP3 formats and can send them your way at up to “320 bits per second ” (.hopefully they meant to say kbit/s.) either over a wired Gigabit Ethernet connection or via 802.11g.

On the receiving end and in up to 10 separate rooms, the Melody Nº2 can receive music from either the Opus or almost any other media server or computer or from a connected iPod, before sending it off to various audio components.
The Olive approach is not for the cost-averse. The 1TB Opus sells for $1799 and each Melody goes for $599. And if you choose to pre-load your collection of 3000 CDs onto the unit’s hdd, Olive will charge about $1625. Let’s see now [..reaches in drawer for abacus..] a full-bore solution with a Melody in each room adds up to approximately $9414. Definitely on the high-end.

Yikes, that’s a lot for a music server. I’d rather save my money up for a new desk abacus.
if i ever get rich, i’d love a high-end audio system–more for showing off than actually playing, though.
I think I’d need better hearing to fully appreciate this system.
