Virtual Wall Traffic Light

iF, the International Forum Design recently awarded one of their 2008 concept awards in the category of Architecture & Public Spaces to Hanyoung Lee for his Virtual Wall Traffic Light. The Virtual Wall uses lasers to project virtual pedestrians across an intersection to supplement the traffic light.

If these can save electricity and are cheaper than regular traffic lights, then I hope they gain widespread usage.

How about a crossing guard made of lasers? That would be pretty cool.

If they ever set this up and some drivers didn’t know about it, I’d imagine it might scare the living daylights out of them.
