Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T500

August 30th, 2008

By GadgetManiac

The new Sony T-series Cyber-Shot DSC-T500 ostensibly a 10.1 megapixel 5x optical zoom ultra-slim point and shoot still camera now offers hi-def 720p 30fps video recording.

We’ve used & liked the T series – they’re nice & thin. Also tried the newish DSCW-170 .. it has a good screen plus a wide angle zoom, altho the optional GPSCS1 gps dongle is a bit of a drag to carry around.

Blaupunkt TravelPilot 700 with Video Navigation

August 29th, 2008

By GadgetManiac

Nice of Blaupunkt to splice together a GPS navigation system with a video camera, plus traffic sign recognition, a DVB-T TV receiver, voice control, web-access via WLAN, hand-free phone calls, music via Bluetooth, speed-camera warnings, and an integrated Traffic Message Channel (TMC … must be a Europe-only thing), into one handy mashup. Here’s a simulated demo movie of the Blaupunkt TravelPilot 700 in action. $740.

Nice, but…

…there’s no lane departure warning system, collision avoidance, accident recording, black ice detection, radar detector, still photography with face recognition, hi-def video recording, iPod dock, or sharing of music with other TravelPilot vehicles! …guess we’ll just have to wait for v2.0!

Moon Landing Hoax Deemed a Hoax

August 28th, 2008

By GadgetManiac

MythBusters debunks all those theories about the Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17 NASA manned lunar landings being faked. Their Aug 27 2008 show entitled Moon Landing Hoax Hour examined the flapping flag, footprints, shadows, wonky moonwalking in 1/6 gravity and so on. They declare the myth to be Busted, with their strongest evidence being the laser light returned by the retroreflectors left on the moon by Apollo 11, 14 and 15.

…whew! that’s a load off our mind…

Use a Reuleaux triangle drill bit to create square holes (…well, almost-square holes).

…sort of like a Wankel engine for woodworking.

Canon PowerShot E1 Digital Camera

August 26th, 2008

By GadgetManiac

Canon has on offer a new compact digital camera, model PowerShot E1. Very organic looking /w soft, rounded shapes. Design comes to the fore with the body available in a white-vanilla savanna-grasslands theme, or an aquamarine-seagull harbor-blue finish, or a pink-cotton baobab-tree motif. And in a first, the initial start-up screen harmonizes with the body color…

Reminiscent of Discoid Form III and suggestive of Upper-Paleolithic design influences.

10.3 megapixels ,  4x optical zoom, specs are at this link.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Review

August 25th, 2008

By GadgetManiac

Trusted Reviews reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 digital camera and liked it so much they gave it an overall rating of 10/10.

While the DMC-FZ28 may indeed be the best of the superzooms (>> run-of-the-mill 3-4x optical zoom), the associated rating of perfect suggests that TR has moved beyond hyperbole, to adynaton, and that their article is more canonization than review.
