It appears that the use of swearing, cursing and bad language isn’t all bad. Applied judiciously, use of the “F word” and other assorted niceties can build group solidarity, release stress as well as get an audience’s attention. Cussing works because it seems to operate at a more basic level in the brain’s circuitry.

It seems odd that profanity operates at such a basic level of the brain when it’s a learned, socialized activity. Maybe it’s our nature to like whatever’s taboo.
i’ve never thought of swearing as enforcing group solidarity. maybe it’s fun to get together with your friends just to swear.
