Extending the Mobile Workforce with mail2web.com and BlackBerry Bold 9000

by Darish on October 9, 2008

Being a techie, I recently upgraded my BlackBerry 8000 to the new BlackBerry Bold 9000. I like the Bold for a few reasons: 3G, WiFi, as well as the display and keyboard. But this post is not about the BlackBerry Bold 9000, but rather, the importance of Mobile devices in today’s workforce.

In the present business environment, mobile devices have become vital tools that extend the mobility of the workforce. Current devices are extremely powerful and portable. This allows Enterprises of all sizes to provide information and business applications to employees on demand where ever they are.

In my case, the BlackBerry plays a key role in supporting the myhosting.com and mail2web.com environments. Our proactive monitoring systems send alerts to my mobile device to warn of any issues that might be arising. Colleagues and customers can reach me at any time in the day via PIN or Email messaging. All communication on the BlackBerry is encrypted, so security is maintained even outside of the office. The BlackBerry also supports Yahoo and Google Instant Messaging platforms. This can be useful for both business and personal communication.

The main features I use with my BlackBerry are PIN messaging and email. PIN messages can be exchanged between BlackBerry users securely and quickly, helping me stay in contact with colleagues. With email, BlackBerry supports attachment viewing such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe and others. It allows me to access my calendar and view, edit or add meetings and appointments on the road. These are extremely important features in today’s fast changing enterprise.

Using mail2web.com email services and signing up for a BlackBerry account, businesses can also make use of these features. For example, sales managers can push leads to sales staff instantaneously, and staff can be notified of product updates. At mail2web.com we offer BlackBerry Enterprise Service, and these services can also be used with Windows Mobile devices and the Apple iPhone.

The internet allows us to be “connected” and mobile devices take it to the next level and allow us to be connected anywhere.

I’ve become part of the mobile workforce lately, and I think it’s one of the best things ever! I’d much rather work at Starbuck’s or with my dog on my lap than in an office!

No commute, which means less stress, less gas, less wear and tear on the car, and it’s better for the environment….what’s not to like?
