Today I saw an article about futuristic cell phones and I decided to write about it. I remember my first cell phone; it was Alcatel One Touch Easy and was able to send text messages. That was the latest technology in 1999. Now I’m using iPhone 3Gs… Should I mention the abilities of my new phone?
Even today, cell phones are able to do almost everything. You can surf on the Internet, check your email, write your daily blog, watch TV, listen to podcasts and music, chat with friends, and more. If you own a smartphone, you don’t even have to buy a notebook. But what will cell phones look like in the near future?
The most feasible idea is “wearable” cell phones. LG’s watch-phone designs leaked a long time ago on the Internet. And Now they are even taking pre-orders online.

Nokia has many wearable phone designs. The Nokia 888 and Nokia Morph are only two of them. They are soft and bendable.

BenQ and NEC have similar concepts, too. The BenQ Snake looks like a real snake, doesn’t it?

There is another trend in future-phones: smell-o-phones. From now on, cell phones are going to use 4 senses; hearing, sight, touch and smell. I’m expecting a new model: cooking cell-phones. At least, they should be able to prepare a sandwich! This would cover all 5 senses!
Here are the sketches of the Motorola and Nokia prototypes:

Apart from these weird cell phones, there are more reasonable projects, too. Cell phones are getting environmentally friendly. The first green cell phone was launched short time ago by Samsung. The Samsung Green is made of only bio-plastics and does not contain any cadmium or lead. The Nokia Eco-Sensor Concept series are coming soon too.

I would prefer to have a eco-sensitive phone over a smell-o-phone.

I wouldn’t want a smell-o-phone when talking to my uncle. I don’t think that guy remembers to wear deodorant.
Is that even possible?
I’m amazed that you could send texts way back in ’99. I would’ve loved that capability back then.
So the smell-o-phone you can smell the people you are talking to?
