The Palm WebOS 1.2 Update is now available although it is being reported that it contains some serious ‘Exchange Sync’ problems. It’s supposed to improve calendar syncing and e-mail capabilities but fails severely.
There are many people from different forums having Exchange Activesync problems after installing the web O.S 1.2 update. Palm is aware of the issue and they are working on it but unfortunately they haven’t found even a temporary quick fix. You can check their forums from time to time to stay updated. Plus we will share all the news on this subject with you. Don’t forget to check our forum, too!!
We believe that Palm will need a strong patch for webOS 1.2.1 to fix this syncing issue. If you haven’t yet updated to WebOS 1.2, we advise against doing so for the time being.
If you are also experiencing this problem breaking Exchange EAS on your Palm Pre, please share your thoughts with us!

yep, it broke mine!
I found the following ActiveSync setting that was preventing my Pre froming syncing with our Exchange 2007 CA server:
Open your ActiveSync’s property and go to “Sync Settings” tab. There is a check box for “Allow synchronization when roaming” option. When this option is checked, then my Pre gets “Unavailble to validate incoming…” message. As soon as I have this unchecked, Pre syncs up with my Exchange server fine. By the way, “Time without user input…” option is set to “15″ in my password policy. I also tried 3 minutes and it worked as well (unlike PrimerFender’s experience)
To be 100% sure, I had my Pre go through Full Erase during each test.
Hope this helps.
You can take a look at the details regarding this setting here. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691441.aspx
Supposedly that will fix this issue for now if you can even make those changes. I am one of the Pre owners not happy with this right now.
Josh,
Thanks for the information!! =)
Not a problem, PreCentral.net is a great site for Pre information
I enjoy my Pre and your hosted exchange service so I just want both working properly again

That post gives two images that supposedly are a fix for this issue. Not sure if it is something possible at this hosting service, but figured I would share the new information for the day.
I’m also broken… I hope you guys can get the work-around implemented today! My Pre without contacts is basically useless.
Is “Mail2web” going to make the above changes or do we wait for “Palm” to release an update with changes on their end.
As of this moment I am paying for a service which is not working.
thank you
We will look into the suggestions you have all provided, and I will post a follow up comment when I have more details. But at this point, the ball is in Palm’s court. The issue is happening only with Palm Pre devices running webOS 1.2, we have had no complaints from users of other devices that also use EAS such as Windows Mobile, iPhone, Android, etc.
I too am experiencing the same problem. Has anyone discovered a work-around? I was instructed to remove my exchange acct. from my pre and now I’m left w/out contacts & calendars! Please keep us posted on any progress with this issue! Thanks!
Can you uninstall the OS 1.2 and revert to the older version?
FROM PRECENTRAL.NET Actually, a lot of people are having the problem with hosted-Exchange companies and we’re guessing getting them to apply the fix is going to be nigh-impossible.
The ‘fix’ involves un-checking a bunch of sub-policies under the Required Password settings (whether or not Required Password is checked):
* Number of failed attempts allowed
* Min. Password length
* Time without user input before password must be re-entered
There you go – if you have the ability to get the settings on your Exchange server adjusted, those are the adjustments you need to make
From what I understand from the Palm forum, they have identified the issue with webOS 1.2 and are working on a solution. We are unable to apply the workaround for IT Administrators as this would affect all the users on our Exchange 2007 servers. Currently our EAS Policy does not require a password and does not have “Number of failed attempts allowed”, “Minimum password length” or “Time without user input…” enabled.
Palm has now posted an article on how to restore your Palm Pre to webOS 1.1.
We’re anxiously awaiting a proper client side fix from Palm. If anyone hears andything new, please let us know.
Thanks!
Just another update for anyone following this thread. We have been in contact with Palm’s Support Team and are providing them with a test account that they can use to troubleshoot with.
I really hope Palm gets a jump on this. I’ve been without email/contacts/calendar all week and it’s killing me.
I appreciate you guys working with Palm on this. I really have had no issues with your service and would like to continue using it. I’d get rid of the phone over my M2W account if I had to choose.
Update: Palm webOS 1.2.1 was released this morning and has resolved the EAS issue with my mail2web.com account! This update also fixes iTunes sync with iTunes 9.0.1 – may the cat & mouse game continue… Hope everyone has a great weekend!
My understanding Palm has released 1.2.1 to fix the exchange issue and it also address the the itunes sync with version 9.01 and enables the LED notifications, Has anyone tested it yet with Mail2web?
Just wanted to update this for anyone still following it. Palm released webOS update 1.2.1 this morning and it completely fixes this issue. Immediately after installing I was back syncing with my Mail2Web account. Good stuff!
The new update is out (1.2.1) and the problem seems to be completely resolved.
Thanks for Posting Jerry,
Unfortunately, Bell Canada hasn’t released the webOS 1.2.1 update to Canadian customers yet. Hopefully they’ll push it out soon!
If you’re a Bell Canada customer who needs this update, get on the phone and let them know!
My colleague bought a Palm Pre for work purposes as she really, really doesn’t want an iPhone. I am more tech-savvy than her so tried to get it set up with our Microsoft Exchange Server via EAS. No joy. Numerous security certificates, plenty conversation and a call to a Palm Tech Support in Buenos Aires later and….we have to return it to O2 and get an iPhone instead.
Really upsetting – it’s such a great design but just won’t sync with our Exchange server, and in that is completely and utterly useless as a phone for work.
There was an issue with the 1.2 webOS software version that required an update to 1.2.1 in order to function with exchange. The most recent version of the software does work currently.
If you’re able to try again after updating let us know how it goes!
