Motorola dumping LiMo for Android?

LiMo vs Android

Rumour has it, Motorola is about to cancel its partnership with LiMo. There are more than 40 handsets on the market based on LiMo platform but Android continues to conquer LiMo’s customers day by day.

And Motorola is one of them. Motorola states about Android:

[Motorola] feels that the Android platform gives it a richer, more consistent foundation with strong support for the ecosystem and developer community.

However, Motorola was one of the co-founders of LiMo Foundation alongside with NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic, Samsung and Vodafone.  It will remain as an associate member of the foundation but Motorola is planning to use the open sourced Linux-based Android operating systems on its new handsets.

We’re looking forward to seeing the first Motorola Android devices on the market, and see how well Android Email works with Exchange ActiveSync.

I love that Motorola is designing cell phones with the environment in mind. Discarded cell phones pose a huge ecological threat, one that gets far too little attention, too.
