Saygus is a small Utah-based firm, that specialized in video-calling software. If you’ve never heard of it, I don’t blame you, however, its new Android based phone might just grab your attention.
The Saygus VPhone is coming to the market. Naturally, VPhone focuses on video calling with a rare front-mounted VGA camera, 5 megapixel autofocusing camera on the back, 624MHz PXA310 XScale core, 512MB of Flash on board with 256MB of RAM, a 3.5-inch capacitive WVGA touchscreen, QWERTY slider keyboard, WiFi, and EV-DO Rev. and supports Verizon’s 3G network. Saygus sees the phone as a way to show off their video-calling software, which can transmit 352×288 video at 24-30 frames per second over a 48-kilobit stream. Saygus is planning to run VPhone on Android 2.0 and will be launching next year. The price will also be later announced.

I’d never heard of Saygus either, but I checked it out and some of their stuff looks pretty exciting. And of course they have an Android–who doesn’t?
I loved reading about small firms suddenly becoming hot thanks to a great innovation.
And maybe nothing’s hotter than video calling right now. A great kind of software to be involved with.
