Email is one of the popular types of online communication. You are required to have an email account in order to send and receive messages.
- What is email?
Email is an electronic message, which a person can use to engage other person in conversation. Whenever you send an email to someone, the message is delivered to the inbox of the recipient. The recipient needs to access his email account to read your email. You need to know the email address of the person (recipient) to whom you want to send mail. The email address consists of three components. 1) A username- which comes before @ sign; 2) the ‘@’ sign; and 3) name of the email server that receives email.
- Get yourself email account
There are several free email services available. These email services provide enough storage space (some web mail services offer space of up to 5GB). The web mail service also allows you to send attachments, such as, documents, pictures and other kind of files along with messages.
- Writing an email
Email is intended for simple and quick communication. You should pay proper attention to grammar and spelling mistakes. Email program have built in spell checking facility. Email services also offer you the option to send copy of the same mail to different people at same time with ‘Cc’ and ‘Bcc’ option.
Cc: When you include email addresses in CC, all the recipient will know about the list of people who have received the same message.
Bcc: When you include email address in Bcc. The recipient is unaware about the other people who have received the same message.
- Reading email
All messages you receive are stored in your inbox. When you log into your web mail account, you will see an inbox, which displays total number of messages inside and number of new messages you have received. The new messages are arranged on the top of the list, and you will see an icon of closed envelope accompanying unread email messages. When you open a message, the icon changes to open envelope, which indicates you, have opened the message
- Replying to message
You can click on the reply button on the web mail interface to reply to a mail. Selecting the reply button automatically copies the email address of the sender to whom you wish to send mail. The original copy of the mail is also added to message body.
- Forwarding a message
If you want to send a message that you have received to an individual or a group, you can use the forward option to send the mail.
