Remote Email Access

There is time when you do not want to go to office but there are some important emails in your inbox at office that you have got to reply to. What do you do now? You wish if you could access your office desktop from your home and do whatever you wanted to with the mail box without going out of your home. Rejoice! It is possible now. You can access remote computer emails and schedule them in your home desktop, Palm top or Pocket PC.

Accessing Remote Computer through LAN (Modem)
Outlook 2002 and later versions allow you to send and receive emails and exchange any other information from home, work or anywhere. While in office you can connect with local network and while at home or other remote location, you can access your system through a modem which transfers data through telephone line or any other dedicated internet lines. You can use Outlook or any other online email service like Webmail to access your emails. These utilities allow you to view, edit, send and receive your emails. Webmail comes handy in such situation and is quite easy to operate.

Accessing Your Emails Remotely from Laptop
Of course you can not carry your desktop along with its internet accessories like modem and a connecting line wherever you go. Bu you do feel the need. All the new laptops are coming with Wi-Fi technology which is a Wireless Fidelity technology providing wireless internet connection. All you need to avail this feature is to just stay in a Wi-Fi zone. There is another instrument called WLAN or Wireless LAN which is a small, easy to carry USB modem which can be used from anywhere within the service providers’ network. Once you have established internet connection, you can access any email account, no matter where you are.

Accessing Remote Emails through Mobile
New mobile instruments come with built-in Wi-Fi or GPRS technology to allow remote connectivity. This technology is very much in use among the business persons and professionals who need to stay connected with their email accounts in a real time manner. Once you are able to get internet connectivity, you can access email client on your device. It can be Outlook, Webmail or any other email client that you might be using. There are many advanced technology mobile devises from BlackBerry, iPhone and others who allow you to access remote email servers in an easy manner. So wherever you are, you are never far from your email account now.

I wonder though how it will really work because there might be some security issues with it considering companies put their web servers behind a strong firewall. What’s the difference of allowing webmail servers instead?

Hey thanks for the question – depends on whether the company’s email allows IMAP/Exchange access or not.
